Signs and Symptoms of Youth Depression:
- Anxiety
- Persistent sadness (with or without crying)
- Lack of energy/motivation
- Temper outbursts and/ or violent episodes
- Easily irritated
- Change in sleep schedule (Sleeping too little or too much)
- Change in Eating habits (Eating too much or restricting)
- Withdrawal from Family or Friends
- Withdrawal and loss of interest from previously enjoyed activities
- Feelings of fear (even if there is no reason)
- Feelings of extreme guilt or shame
- Difficulty focusing
- Poor memory
- Increased risky behavior (substances,
- Drop in Grades
- Skipping school or avoiding classes
- Self injurious behavior*
- Negative self remarks
- Negative outlook
- Feelings of helplessness*
- Feelings that things will never get better*
- Comments about death or dying *
- Writing, drawing, or listening to music about hopelessness, violence, or death *
