Notes from the Executive Director
WITH SUMMER COMING, WE HAVE GOOD NEWS TO SHARE
Connecticut Public Charter Schools go through a periodic and very rigorous process for the renewal of their charters. The maximum length of a charter renewal is five years. This year six charters schools were up for renewal. Odyssey was one of the three schools that received a five year renewal, with the other schools receiving a three year renewal. Odyssey was recognized as providing a high quality education to its students, maintaining a sizeable waiting list of families trying to gain entrance to the school, as well as having no financial or board oversight irregularities. We are proud, indeed.
For his Eagle Scout Project, Class of 2012 alumnus Joseph Fultz undertook a massive cleanup in front of the school. All the rocks were removed, weed proof cloth laid down, the sea grass thinned and planted more symmetrically, the rocks replaced, and flowers donated by Woodland Gardens were planted in the two beautiful wood planters built by Joe. We have had many, many compliments and want to thank Joe for choosing Odyssey as his project.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Mr. Avallone and Mr. Buonacquisto, Odyssey has received a grant of $56,000 from the State of Connecticut for specialized equipment and training. This grant will allow middle school morning announcements to be shown live on classroom Smart Boards. We will also be able to live stream special events like graduation or the school play, so out of state family members can share in the celebration. Events can also be shared classroom to classroom. Many more details on this exciting new initiative will be released in the fall.
The last day of school on Monday, June 22nd, will be a half day.
The first two days of the new school year are Thursday and Friday, August 27th and 28th, will also be half days.
Have a wonderful summer! Encourage your child to read every day.
The First 5 Minutes Campaign has launched!
THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO STUDENTS WHO RIDE THE BUS TO SCHOOL.
Morning Drop Off
8:00 am. Teachers are on duty in the back parking lot until 7:55. If students walk in with those teachers, they are unable to be ready by 8:00. Thus, those students will be walked to the office and will be marked tardy.
