MARC Walk Fest and OCS (6/11/2010 - 10/3/2010)
OCS Walkers take your mark, get ready, and start walking on October 2, 2010!

MARC, Inc. of Manchester is holding their second annual Walk Fest at Northwest Park to benefit their building fund.

Ms. Willem is the captain of Team Odyssey. Team Odyssey is one of many teams participating and we are looking for sponsors or for people who would like to help join our team to help raise funds.

MARC, Inc. has done a lot for our school’s town by helping people with developmental disabilities achieve their goals and dreams by enabling them to live, work, and enjoy all that Manchester has to offer. With our help, MARC can help even more people. We appreciate anything that you can do to help support us in reaching our fundraising goal.

Please pledge to support Odyssey’s Team or put on those walking shoes and join us on October 2, 2010.

You can donate online on our fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com or send Ms. Willem a written check at Odyssey written out to MARC, Inc. of Manchester. Everyone from MARC, Inc. really appreciates everything that you contribute.

Thank you!

CMT Scores Sent Home (9/2/2010 - 9/10/2010)
At OCS, we believe that the CMTs are one way to measure how students are doing in school. We have always been committed to providing each student with a challenging, engaging curriculum that is full of innovative, exciting lessons. We teach our students to be critical thinkers and problem-solvers, and to stay excited about learning as they move into high school. Our teachers also work very hard to ensure that their students gain the knowledge and skills that they need to master our curriculum and do well on the CMTs.

We are very pleased and proud of the overall improvements that our students made on the CMTs this past year, and we are confident that their scores will continue to rise.

Please take some time with your child to review his or her CMT results. If your child scored below a level 3 (proficient) in reading, writing, math or science, we will be putting extra supports in place to help him or her improve in those areas. In addition, we will be ensuring that students who score above a level 3 continue to be challenged with an engaging, challenging curriculum.

As always, please feel free to call your child’s teachers or me with any questions or concerns. You can find all of our contact numbers on the website, or call 645-1234 and follow the voicemail prompts.

Sincerely,
Lia Barnes, Principal

ALERT - Hurricane Earl (9/2/2010 - 9/6/2010)
September 2, 2010
Anticipating Hurricane Earl

For all OCS Parents and Guardians:

In preparation for any potential problems related to the predicted hurricane tomorrow, please read through the following information:

If OCS loses power at any point, we have working emergency lights for 1 hour throughout the school.

If we lose power, teachers will take their classes to the following “safe area” locations that have a source of natural light:
• Grade 4, Library.
• Grades 5 and 6, Art Room.
• Grades 7 and 8, Science room.

If we are going to proceed with an emergency dismissal, dismissal time will be 12:30. Manchester busses will bring students home via the usual bus runs. Parents who pick students up will need to be here for 12:30 dismissal. If there's a need for a different dismissal time, this information will be given to all major local news outlets and (if possible) will be posted on the OCS website.

Once in the “safe areas,” students will be instructed to call their parents or guardians via cell phone (their own or a peer's or a teacher’s cell phone) to inform you that school is being dismissed early. We will need to keep the 3 school phone lines open for incoming calls.

Mr. Bugbee, Mrs. Stancliffe, Mrs. Dowling and I will work with teachers to help students to contact you in an efficient and calm manner.

For safety reasons, students will not be allowed to leave the “safe areas” without an escort from a staff member.

Please check the news media for notices of dismissal or other emergency information. Please note that Odyssey follows all Manchester dismissal protocols so Odyssey will not be listed separately on the banners that scroll on the TV screen.
